132 golfers took to the links of the Wilshire Country Club on Monday, June 24 to show their generosity while having a great day at the Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament. The event — recently renamed to pay tribute to esteemed DGA member and DGF officer — was a fundraiser created to benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting DGA members facing difficult times.

“Before we get started, I want to take a moment to honor the memory of our much-loved Foundation officer, Carl Weathers, whose absence is deeply felt,” said DGF Chairman Todd Holland during the post tournament banquet. “Carl’s passion for this annual tournament and supporting his colleagues was unmatched. His service to the DGA and the Foundation was as broad and as deep as his wonderful booming voice – bringing his heart and soul to every effort. He loved this tournament, his Guild and all of us. Renaming this event in his honor is a fitting tribute to his more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Foundation. And it was an honor to serve beside him for that entire ride.”

Holland then thanked all the players for their participation, with a special acknowledgement to one of the event's founders and its driving force for the past 27 years, DGF Second Vice Chairman and former DGA National Executive Director Jay D. Roth, who also serves as a co-chair of the tournament alongside DGF Assistant Secretary, Director Michael Zinberg. “Jay’s commitment to the Foundation is unparalleled, fostering invaluable relationships with our Sponsors and members over the years to ensure the success of this event,” said Holland.

Turning his attention to the nearly eight-decade mission of the DGF, Holland spoke about its rich history of helping DGA members in crisis as well as supporting the entertainment community through contributions to the MPTF and the Entertainment Community Fund and the Los Angeles and New York Health Fairs hosted by the DGA and the DGA-Producer Pension and Health Plans. “When tough times hit… when a show is canceled, or a contract ends ...or a global pandemic or dual strikes hit… but the bills don’t… that’s when the Foundation steps up – bridging temporary crises and getting members back on their feet until that next job, by providing confidential and interest free loans. This tradition of generosity has made a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of DGA members by providing millions of dollars in loans to members in need. This vital work by the Foundation could not continue without your support today. On behalf of the Foundation Board, many DGA members, and their families the Foundation has assisted over the years, we thank you.”

After thanking the sponsors and declaring the raffle prize winners, Holland turned the proceedings over to Zinberg who announced the winners and congratulated them on their bragging rights before adding his heartfelt thank you on behalf of the Foundation and bidding everyone good night.
