128 golfers took to the links of the Wilshire Country Club on Monday, June 26 to show their generosity while having a great day at the 26th Annual Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) Golf Tournament. The event was a fundraiser created to benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting DGA members facing difficult times. Due to the continued support of the tournament by DGA members, more than $1.5 million has been raised to benefit the DGF over the past 26 years.
Kicking off the awards ceremony, DGF Chairman Todd Holland thanked all the players for their participation, with a special shout out to one of the Tournament’s founders, DGF Second Vice Chairman and former DGA National Executive Director Jay D. Roth, who also serves as a Co-Chair of the Golf Tournament alongside Director Michael Zinberg.
“We are so grateful for the relationships he has forged over these 26 years with our Sponsors and members — and with the Wilshire Country Club — to make this Tournament a joyful, perennial success story,” said Holland.
After thanking the teams from the Wilshire Country Club and the DGA staff who made the tournament possible, Holland, who served as a Co-Chair of the DGA Negotiations Committee, also thanked the attending members of that committee and DGA National Executive Director Russell Hollander for their hard work and dedication in achieving a successful new contract, then went on to discuss the nearly eight-decade mission of the DGF.
“The DGF was established by a group of Directors who wanted to help their fellow members when tough times hit. As a Foundation Trustee and member of the DGA for 37 years, it’s been my privilege to witness first-hand the direct impact of our work to help fellow members in crisis. This tradition of generosity has made a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of DGA members by providing millions of dollars in loans to Members in need. The importance of that work has never been more evident than it was throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The Foundation launched an Emergency Relief Fund providing hundreds of thousands of dollars of free emergency aid to members. And now, two months and counting into the WGA strike, I’m pleased to announce that the Foundation is rebooting that emergency grant program for DGA members in need balancing yet another industry work stoppage.
“The DGF also supports the entertainment community through contributions to the Motion Picture and Television Fund and the Entertainment Community Fund and by supporting the Los Angeles and New York Health Fairs hosted by the DGA and the DGA-Producer Pension and Health Plans. And when the fairs couldn’t take place due to COVID, the Foundation launched a free flu shot voucher program for members not covered by the Health Plan. This important work by the Foundation could not continue without your support today.”
Tournament Co-Chair/DGF Assistant Secretary Michael Zinberg then announced the winners and congratulated them on their bragging rights before adding his heartfelt thank you on behalf of the Foundation and bidding everyone good night.
